1917 (2019)

Directed by Sam Mendes, 1917 stars George MacKay and Dean-Charles Chapman as two young British soldiers sent across the Western Front to deliver an urgent message that could prevent a battalion from walking into a German trap. Inspired by stories told to Mendes by his grandfather, a World War I veteran, the film follows their mission through trenches, ruined villages and enemy territory. 1917 won the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture – Drama and Best Director, while BAFTA awarded it Best Film and Best Director; it also won three Academy Awards, including Best Cinematography for Roger Deakins.
