A Chinese Ghost Story (1987)
A Chinese Ghost Story stars Leslie Cheung as travelling tax collector Ning, who seeks shelter in an abandoned temple and falls in love with the ghost Siu-sin, played by Joey Wong. With the help of Wu Ma’s Taoist swordsman, he is drawn into a battle against the supernatural forces controlling her. The film is based on Pu Songling’s story “Nie Xiaoqian” from Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio.

A Chinese Ghost Story II (1990)
In A Chinese Ghost Story II, Leslie Cheung returns as Ning and is caught between corrupt officials, rebel fighters, demons and mistaken identities. Joey Wong returns in a new role alongside Michelle Reis, Jacky Cheung and Wu Ma as the sequel expands the fantasy world with larger-scale wuxia action, political conflict and supernatural creatures.

A Chinese Ghost Story III (1991)
Set a century later, A Chinese Ghost Story III stars Tony Leung Chiu-wai as a young Buddhist monk who encounters another ghost played by Joey Wong while travelling with his master. Their journey leads to renewed battles against spirits and demons, bringing the trilogy to a close with its characteristic mixture of romantic fantasy, martial-arts action, horror and comedy.
