A Streetcar Named Desire (1951)

Directed by Elia Kazan and starring Vivien Leigh, Marlon Brando, Kim Hunter and Karl Malden, A Streetcar Named Desire follows Blanche DuBois as she moves into the New Orleans home of her sister Stella and her volatile husband Stanley Kowalski. The increasingly destructive conflict between Blanche and Stanley exposes tensions surrounding desire, violence, family and Blanche’s fragile mental state. The film won four Academy Awards, including acting Oscars for Leigh, Hunter and Malden.
