Afro Samurai (2007)
Directed by Fuminori Kizaki and produced by Gonzo, Afro Samurai features Samuel L. Jackson as a swordsman pursuing Justice, voiced by Ron Perlman, after witnessing his father’s murder. Based on Takashi Okazaki’s manga, the five-part anime combines violent samurai action, revenge and stylised sword fighting in a world shaped by the struggle for the Number One headband. RZA’s hip-hop score is integrated into the series’ fusion of Japanese warrior imagery and modern urban style.

Afro Samurai: Resurrection (2009)
Directed by Fuminori Kizaki, Afro Samurai: Resurrection features Samuel L. Jackson as the sword-wielding Afro alongside Lucy Liu, Mark Hamill and Yuri Lowenthal. After Afro’s father is taken from his grave, the vengeful Sio forces him back into the violent struggle surrounding the Number One headband. The animated sequel to Afro Samurai combines bloody samurai action, revenge and science-fiction elements as Afro faces former enemies, cybernetic warriors and the consequences of his earlier quest.
