Directed by Jean-Marc Vallée in its first season and Andrea Arnold in its second, the series combines character-driven drama with mystery and psychological tension. Big Little Lies won the Emmy for Outstanding Limited Series in 2017, while Nicole Kidman, Alexander Skarsgård and Laura Dern also received acting Emmys.
