Blackthorn (2011)

Directed by Mateo Gil, Blackthorn stars Sam Shepard as an ageing Butch Cassidy, living under an assumed name in Bolivia decades after his supposed death. Planning one final journey back to the United States, he becomes involved with a young Spanish engineer on the run after a robbery, drawing him back into the outlaw life he tried to leave behind. Eduardo Noriega, Stephen Rea and Magaly Solier co-star in this contemporary take on the Butch Cassidy legend, combining western, road adventure and character drama. The film received Goya nominations for Best Film and Best Director and won four Goya Awards.
