Tokyo Vice (2022–2024)

This American-Japanese crime-drama series created by J.T. Rogers for HBO Max follows journalist Jake Adelstein (Ansel Elgort) as he moves to Tokyo in 1999 and infiltrates the city’s vice squad to expose the yakuza underworld. With guidance from veteran detective Hiroto Katagiri (Ken Watanabe), the series investigates corruption, power and cultural tensions in late-20th-century Japan. Filmed in Tokyo and adapted from Adelstein’s memoir, the story explores themes of identity, ethics and the cost of uncovering truth.
