Directed by Wilson Yip, Ip Man stars Donnie Yen as Wing Chun grandmaster Ip Man in a biographical martial-arts film set in Foshan during the Second Sino-Japanese War. Simon Yam, Lynn Hung and Hiroyuki Ikeuchi co-star in a story combining martial-arts combat, occupation-era drama and the early screen franchise around Bruce Lee’s future teacher. The film became the first entry in the Ip Man film series and helped define Donnie Yen’s modern martial-arts star image.
