Directed by Takashi Shimizu, The Grudge remakes his Japanese horror film Ju-On: The Grudge for an American audience while retaining its Tokyo setting and central curse mythology. Sarah Michelle Gellar stars as Karen, an American care worker who enters a house haunted by the violent deaths of Kayako and Toshio. The film follows several interconnected victims as the curse spreads beyond the house, bringing the J-horror franchise into a new English-language series.
